This week we have received our tourist visa for the USA and are officially granted permission to stay for 180 days. We are especially happy about this, because it also means, that we can pursue our travel plans as intended and do not need to change our routing. Another milestone before our departure is passed! For everyone intending to apply for a US tourist visa in the near future: despite the rumours, we have experienced the application process as fairly straight forward. The paper work takes its time and it is of course important to follow the instructions rigidly and have all necessary documents ready to provide, but in general, all staff at the US embassy in Bern have courteously welcomed us. It goes without saying that it pays off to get the first interview slot in the morning and to rise early.

In the past weeks and months we have been busy choosing the things we intend carrying on our journey. An extensive gear list with pictures can be found here.
Last weekend we spent around half a day to test whether all this material fits into our bike panniers. And: it does! The Ortlieb panniers - the gold standard for touring cyclists - are sponsored by Veloplus, a great supplier of bikes and parts where we have also bought our Trek bikes. A big THANKS to them for offering us the panniers. |
