Our equipment
Below you find an extensive list of the material which we carry on our bike journey.
For the second part of our journey, i.e. backpacking in South America, we practically use the same equipment as stated below. It goes without saying that we no longer carry the bicycle-specific gear, clothes and shoes. The Ortlieb panniers are replaced by two backpacks (Mammut and Sherpa Outdoor). In Anchorage, we furthermore bought trekking shoes (Garmont Dragontail). And as we have to carry our belongings on our backs, we generally try to dispense with some things of our initial gear list in order to travel more light-weight.

Bikes
We decided on two Trek bicycles, model 520 - a classic touring bike with a robust steel frame, 28” rims and comparably simple components. This should allow us to perform basic repairs on our own and in remote areas.
